Do I consider myself a writer. I myself think that my writing could improve a whole lot. I think that I write better when I am writing an essay about a topic that interests me. I feel that when I am writing an essay on a topic that I am not interested I really don't put in the effort as I would have if it were a completely different subject. So am I writer, I would say everyone is a writer who has written something before either for a class or something else. I am probably not a good writer but I do consider myself a writer.
I myself think i also need to improve on my writing skills. I agree on that when people write about what interest them they put more effort than when its a subject that doesn't.
ReplyDeleteGabino, you and Robert agree about how much easier it is to write about something you are interested in. Yes, I have seen that be the case for my students and myself. That is partly why I start out with writing assignments that are based on your own experiences, such as what you did over summer or winter break. This assignment seems to get accomplished quicker for students that feel comfortable with writing about what they know. But I do also like giving students’ assignments which require research because then the student has the opportunity to gain additional knowledge in something that might just change their opinion, add a new experience and open up breadth of knowledge too. Organizing our thoughts, whether knowledge-based or research-based can often be the process step at which some of us may experience “writer’s block”. Ultimately, the key is to continue to grow as a writer and be open to editing and accepting writing tips too.
ReplyDeleteI agree Gabino, I don't put much effort into my essays if i don't like the topic either. Our writing can definitely improve if we choose to perfect it.
